I need a proofreader (or two) who can stick around on IRC
Let me keep this brief:
I need one or even two proofreaders for various projects. (I could also use a bunch of other things, but right now I'd like to focus on proofreaders)
I currently have roughly two volumes worth of stuff translated that needs proofing before we typeset, and I don't have any proofreaders to work on those series. It's a problem, and it's annoying me.
Here are the requirements:
1) You need to be [ideally] proficient in the English language. If you need to look up what "proficient" means, you need not apply. If you believe filtering the script through Microsoft Word to fix a few typos is good enough, you need not apply.
2) You need to be available to come on IRC and possibly idle there. If you don't want to get familiar with IRC or idle there, I'm not going to accept you. I'm not saying you need to be there 24/7, every day of every week, but you need to be online to communicate with the rest of the group. Which leads me to point #3...
3) When you proofread scripts, you'll be in contact with the translator and you'll have to go over your changes with him/her/them. So it'll be a little bit more than just proofreading the script, sending it to me and going on to the next script. You'll be in discussion with the translators about certain changes.
If you're interested, PM me on IRC. if I'm not there, leave me some information about you via PM.
Thanks for reading.
Iron Kiba is a bad motherfucker
It's Friday night, and I hope you're all enjoying the upcoming weekend.
Today we have a pretty big release.
As usual, we're looking for more staff. Redrawers, proofreaders, quality checkers. The more staff we get, the faster we can work on some series and pressure some of our translators to work faster ;) If you're interested in helping us, PM me on IRC or send me an email.
Koukou Tekken-den Tough v21-22 (!Tough21 !Tough22 !KKTT21 !KKTT22) - We're officially past the half-way mark of the series! 22 volumes down, 20 volumes left! This is the first release we're doing with a new cleaner of ours, Soujourn. Big thank you to him for stepping up and doing these two volumes. He's also cleaned volume 23, and it'll get done probably within the next 6 weeks... But no promises.
The reason we went with a two volume release is because, 1) This concludes the arc that was going on the last few volumes and 2) Sets up the mega arc, that goes from volumes 23 to half-way through volume 38. A total of roughly 185 chapters in length. Yeah, this is going to take a while.
Another good thing from these volumes? Two interviews with some of my favorite fighters ever. In volume 21, there's Kazushi Sakuraba irca 1997, prior to his fight with Carlos Newton. And in volume 22, there's the immortal Ernesto Hoost.
Shamo v29 is translated. Thanks to oxymoron for translating, <3. However, we need a proofreader before I can typeset. Faster we get one, the faster we can start working on the volume. By the way, if your idea of proofreading is putting the script through Microsoft Word & looking for spelling mistakes, don't waste my time.
Full Metal Panic Sigma v18 is translated (yay). It's in the process of getting proofread before I start typesetting it.
We're working on something by Toyoda Tetsuya and Igarashi Daisuke. Hopefully they'll get done by mid-to-late July, but I'm not sure when.
I've started working on that new series with HappyScans!, expect a release in roughly a week or so.
That's all for tonight. Goodnight.
Some forests, for real, yo
We're a little bit late with this, because we had planned to release it on Monday night, but shit, it wasn't ready yet. Not to mention we had other stuff planned, but I guess that'll be for next time.
I'd just like to mention that we're actively recruiting editors, proofreaders and quality checkers. We currently have an excess of translations, but not enough people to keep up with them. For example, Hito Hitori Futari v06 is completely translated. A few projects that I can't name (One volumes projects mostly) have been translated, but again, we don't have the remaining staff to keep up.
So if you're interested in helping us increase the release speed, PM me on IRC or send me an email. We'd much prefer if you could idle (or at the very least, log on when you can work) on IRC because we're an IRC group and it's much easier to keep track of most folk.
Anyway, release time.
Little Forest v01 (!Forest01 !LF01) - This is our second joint with HotCakes and so far, it's much more successful than our first one only because we don't have to compete with Kotonoha. Ha ha ha... Yeah. Sorry for releasing without you guys btw, laika was on my ass like a pitbull and he really was planning on killing me if I didn't release tonight. Also, you can go thank them here.
REAL v12 (!REAL12 !REALv12) - Another year, another volume. Big thank you to kewl0210 for his time translating the volume. So yeah, enjoy. We'll see you next year.
See you next time, son.
I blame the shitty referees
Welp, my Habs lost, even though they were the better team 3 games out of 5. But shit, after the run we had a few years ago with our goalie stealing every single game, I think it's just karma smacking us and saying we're kinda even now.
We're recruiting staff members. The more staff members we get, the faster we can release. Simple math, right? If you're interested in applying, please send me an e-mail OR visit us on irc. #illuminati-manga @ irc.irchighway.net.
Also, my server should be going down tomorrow (Friday) and I'm hoping the downtime won't be too long. You can always use the Illuminati|Mad bot if you need to download something of ours.
I'm a little short on time again, so I'll make this quick.
Alice in Hell 06 (!Alice06 !AIH06) - Sorry for the delay. momimomi's been having some PC problems and prior to that, he was pretty focused on Sidonia. Now hopefully the project will be moving along a little faster.
Hito Hitori Futari 41-42 (!Hito41 !Hito42 !Hitori41 !Hitori42) - The beginning of a very enjoyable fifth volume. The sixth volume just went for sale and I'm waiting to hear back as to when they'll ship it to me...
I Am A Hero v11 (!IAAH11 !Hero11) - There's a lot of talking in this volume, but not much actually happening. But none the less, it sets up volume 12 pretty nicely. We're thinking volume 12 will go for sale around the end of June.
Quick fyi... FMP Sigma I don't have translations for, I haven't heard from the translator (Avatar) in a little while, so I might need someone new to start translating for us (All the more reason to apply!)... We're working on Real, don't worry... We have some obsure seinen series we're working on that'll be released within a week, maybe two. Not totally sure how far into the series they are, all I've done is scan & whine about it... Shamo is just waiting on zindryr to translate. zindryr is busy with his girlfriend and work, so whenever he has an instant or two, he'll start translating it. It just isn't a priority in his life right now... We'll be picking up a series with HappyScans! in the very near future. It's a series that has a volume & a half to go before being completed, there hasn't been a scanlation for that series in nearly seven years and the group doing it is defunct.
If you have a question, I'll try to answer. Assuming I remember to check the comment.
S'been a while, hasn't it?
Just a small fyi to those of you who download stuff from my bot on IRC... It's going to move servers in the next few days, so there's a chance it might be down temporarily.
Master Keaton 26-27 (!Keaton26 !Keaton27 !MK26 !MK27) - I wish this series wasn't episodic. I really wish it was one long story with Keaton as the protagonist. Oh well. In any case, these two chapters are linked together and are pretty enjoyable, except for the crying woman.
Drink some coffee, will ya?
We were supposed to release this with the other batch, but it wasn't done because a certain Italian was on vacation.
Anyway, I said we were going to release something by Toyoda Tetsuya this year, and here we are.
I'd just like to let you know that our translator, laika, is the same one who translated the first fourteen chapters for NCIS & Which Scanlations. We did not steal the translations from them to make this scanlation. laika specifically wanted to have chapters redone because, 1) They were mag scans and my scans were from a tankobon. 2) He feels like he's improved as a translator and there were lines he wanted to fix up. Just so we're clear.
Coffee Time (!Coffee !CTime) - A collection of seventeen short stories relating to coffee.
We have plans to do more stuff by Toyoda Tetsuya this year, since we all like his stuff. By "all", I mean me, The Italian and laika. And as I'm writing this, laika asks...
.:11·46·38:. «@laika» what are you writing
So, Conclusion-kun, get your ass on IRC. laika wants you.
Small status update on some series... kewl0210 is going to start on some REAL chapters soon, same for the next volume of Hito Hitori Futari. FMP Sigma, waiting on a translation. The translator is pretty busy irl, so I don't know what the ETA is. For Shamo, zindryr is already translating something else atm, but when he's done, he'll probably start on Shamo. IAAH, we sent the script to a proofreader to go over. Ummm... I think that's all for the frequently asked series.
Have a good one.
No, that wasn't an early April Fools joke.
I hope you all had an enjoyable Easter weekend. Mine was, uh, less than memorable for a variety of reasons.
For starters, my dad asked me on Thursday to help him with something that will "take 5, maybe 10 minutes max." Okay, sure. We had to fix the toilet. Well 11 hours over 2 days later, the toilet was beyond fucked so we had to buy a new one, and taking the old one out was difficult because we had little to no space to work and... Yeah, my Thursday & Friday were used up. Then Saturday & Sunday I kept having favors asked of me for various things, when all I wanted to do was scan some volumes I've bought over the last few months.
In any case...
Alice in Hell 05 (!Alice05 !AIH05) - The newest chapter of Alice in Hell. Sorry for the delay. Our translator, momimomi, had been putting a lot of his time on translating Sidonia no Kishi, which we had to drop. So now, he'll be putting a little more focus on Alice and hopefully, more releases. :)
Futatabi by Miura Kentaro (!Futa !Futatabi) - Futatabi is a 1985 oneshot by the mangaka of Berserk, Miura Kentaro. It was a oneshot serialized in Weekly Shounen Magazine. You can tell that even then, Miura was a talented artist.
Hito Hitori Futari 37-40 (!Hito37 !Hito38 !Hito39 !Hito40 !Hitori37 !Hitori38 !Hitori39 !Hitori40) - And this concludes volume 4. Now, if we're lucky, I can convince kewl to take a break from translating Kingdom and get him to translate Hito and REAL. :)
Koukou Tekken-den Tough v20 (!Tough20 !KTT20) - This volume sets up the next fight pretty nicely with a surprise visitor.
Odyssey 06 (!Ody06 !Odyssey06) Thanks as usual to zindryr for translating the volume. This time, black people biting.
Sidonia no Kishi is dropped
Happy Good Friday to all you loony religious folk out there.
At Vertical's request, we will be dropping Sidonia no Kishi from our list of projects. We've had an enjoyable four year (minus one month) run for the series. It's had highs & lows, but overall, it's not a bad series at all. A big thank you to dh85, Elkin and momimomi for doing a large bulk of the work on the series. Shit, all I did was scan & QC, so I deserve minimal credit if any at all.
Please consider purchasing Sidonia no Kishi in English to support both Nihei Tsutomu and Vertical. I personally like them and have bought a bunch of stuff they've done, including Sidonia v01. I've pre-ordered all of the Sido volumes they have available on amazon and they've done a great job witht he series.
In any case, I'm cutting this newspost short because I'm running out of time and I have to go meet someone. We might have something in store for you guys this weekend. Maybe. No guarantees, though, because I have a bunch of stuff that I need to finish up.
Have a good one.
